The historic neighborhood fell into disrepute in the 80s and 90s as crime and poverty led to the flight of solid middle-class families, which in turn led to further crime and poverty; as the Post article notes, however, Anacostia is beginning its resurgence, anchored by decreasing crime levels and increased homeownership. Buyers with a long-term outlook who are looking for a good value inside the city limits may want to take another look at Anacostia.

    There are always caveats to those sorts of predictions, though, including the fact that the current boom market may peter out before the expansion reaches Anacostia. People with a moderate tolerance for risk and a longer-term investment vision should start looking at that area seriously, though.
