Up-and-coming neighborhoods in DC

Since 2002, the DC Main Street program has been working to revitalize older, traditional business districts in DC.

There are now 11 areas that are designated as DC Main Streets; some of them, like the Dupont Circle and Adams Morgan ones, are already thriving communities, while others, such as the 14th & U Street region, are just starting to take off. Buyers who are looking for a good investment and who have some patience may want to take a closer look (PDF) at these neighborhoods; the Main Streets programs take a long-term approach to revitalization, spending 5 years on each area, so many of these corridors are still affordable for buyers while having a good chance of eventually becoming one of the new “it” neighborhoods.
