According to the Energy Information Administration, 6% of energy consumption was, in 2004, in the form of renewables, 1% of that was as solar technology. Historically, the reason for these low percentages were simply economic, but according to many, we have hit a cusp in the efficiency (and therefore the cost-effectiveness) in solar technology.
