Decathlon (of Solar Homes) Descends on DC
Posted on September 28th, 2005 at 4:56 pm by JustinLots of fun events take place on the Mall, but this is the only one we know of directly related to real estate.
According to the Energy Information Administration, 6% of energy consumption was, in 2004, in the form of renewables, 1% of that was as solar technology. Historically, the reason for these low percentages were simply economic, but according to many, we have hit a cusp in the efficiency (and therefore the cost-effectiveness) in solar technology. That, combined with techniques of passive solar design and energy efficient architecture, which allows us to use each watt less wastefully, is drawing more and more people toward solar design annually.
Learn about passive solar design and the latest technology as students from 18 colleges drink up the sun’s ray’s and use it efficiently. Discover which are most cost-effective for your situation and incorporate features into your existing or next home.
Complete details on the decathlon (taking place between October 7-16) are on the EERE website.
